EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations implement the provisions of Council Directive 92/119/EEC introducing general Community measures for the control of certain animal diseases and specific measures relating to swine vesicular disease (O.J. No. L 62, 15.3.1993, p. 69) in so far as that Directive controls swine vesicular disease and Commission Directive 2007/10/EC (O.J. No. L 63, 1.3.2007, p. 24). They revoke and remake with amendments the Swine Vesicular Disease Order (Northern Ireland) 1973.

Part I is introductory.

Part II deals with the notification of suspicion of swine vesicular disease.

Part III and Schedule 1 deal with premises where swine vesicular disease is suspected or confirmed, or which have been exposed to the virus.

Part IV deals with slaughterhouses.

Part V and Schedule 2 make provision for the establishment of protection, surveillance and movement zones following the confirmation of swine vesicular disease on any premises

Part VI prohibits vaccination against swine vesicular disease except in the circumstances set out there.

Part VII contains provisions relating to inspection and enforcement.

Breach of the Regulations is an offence punishable—

a

on summary conviction, with a fine not exceeding the statutory maximum, imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months or both, or

b

on conviction on indictment, with a fine or imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or both.
