This Order may be cited as the Health (2006 Act) (Commencement) Order (Northern Ireland) 2012.

In this Order “the Act” means the Health Act 2006.
Appointed day for provisions relating to the supervision and management of controlled drugs2.
1st August 2012 is the appointed day for the coming into operation of –

Sections 76 and 77 of the Act, in so far as they relate to offences under Chapter 1 of Part 3 (including offences created in regulations under that Chapter).

This Order commences Chapter 1 of Part 3 of the Health Act 2006, in relation to Northern Ireland and sections 76 and 77 of that Act so far as they relate to offences under that Chapter 1 of Part 3 (including offences created in regulations under that chapter). Chapter 1 of Part 3 contains measures relating to the safe management and use of controlled drugs in certain health and social care settings. In particular, it provides for the appointment of accountable officers who are to ensure that specified organisations have appropriate arrangements for the safe and effective handling of controlled drugs, and it contains duties of collaboration between responsible bodies and rights of entry and inspection to relevant premises.
The provisions of the Act listed in the table below have been brought into operation in relation to Northern Ireland by commencement orders made by the Secretary of State.
