The Dogs (Licensing and Identification) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2014

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development(1), makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by Articles 6(2), (3) and (5), 7(9), 8(2) and (3), 15(1), 31(1) and 31(1A) of the Dogs (Northern Ireland) Order 1983(2):

Citation and commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as The Dogs (Licensing and Identification) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2014 and shall come into operation on 1st January 2015.

Amendment to The Dogs (Licensing and Identification) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012

2.—(1) The Dogs (Licensing and Identification) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012(3) are amended in accordance with paragraphs (2) and (3).

(2) Regulation 7 (Licence identification) is revoked.

(3) After regulation 9 (Conditions for valid microchipping), insert—

Updating information

9A.  Where the information referred to in regulation 9(2)(b) changes at any time after the recording of that information on the database, the keeper shall notify the operator of the database with the new information as soon as reasonably practicable..

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend The Dogs (Licensing and Identification) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012 (S.R. 2012 No. 132).

Regulation 7 (Licence identification) is revoked, removing the requirement for dogs to wear a Council issued coloured licence tag attached to their collars.

Regulation 9A (Updating information) makes provision to ensure that all information on the microchip database is up-to-date.

The Department of Agriculture for Northern Ireland was renamed the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development by Article 3(4) of the Departments (Northern Ireland) Order 1999 (S.I. 1999/283 (N.I. 1))
