The Pensions (2008 No. 2 Act) (Commencement No. 11) Order (Northern Ireland) 2014

The Department for Social Development makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 118(1) of the Pensions (No. 2) Act (Northern Ireland) 2008(1).
Citation
1. This Order may be cited as the Pensions (2008 No. 2 Act) (Commencement No. 11) Order (Northern Ireland) 2014.
Commencement of provision
2. Section 110 of the Pensions (No. 2) Act (Northern Ireland) 2008 (official pensions: adjustment of increases in survivors’ pensions) shall come into operation on 13th March 2014.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order brings into operation section 110 of the Pensions (No. 2) Act (Northern Ireland) 2008 (“the Act”) which amends Article 69 of the Social Security Pensions (Northern Ireland) Order 1975 (S.I. 1975/1503 (N.I. 15)) (“the 1975 Order”) on 13th March 2014.
Article 69 of the 1975 Order deals with the index-linking of public service pensions. Article 69(5ZA) as amended by section 110 of the Act reflects the different guaranteed minimum pension entitlements of widowers and widows, and extends the operation of Article 69(5ZA) so that it will apply to future payments of pensions to civil partners.
