These Regulations set the full rate of the new state pension by amending the State Pension Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2015 (S.R. 2015 No. 315). The Pensions Act (Northern Ireland) 2015 (c. 5) creates the new state pension for people reaching pensionable age on or after 6th April 2016 (see Part 1 of that Act). It replaces the existing state pension for those people. The full rate is set at £155.65 per week.
Section 3(1) of the Pensions Act (Northern Ireland) 2015, the enabling power under which these Regulations are made, was brought into operation on 25th February 2016 for the purposes of authorising the making of Regulations by the Pensions (2015 Act) (Commencement No. 3) Order (Northern Ireland) 2016 (S.R. 2016 No. 68 (C. 4)).
