The Department of the Environment makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 51(1) of the Local Government Act (Northern Ireland) 1972(1), and now vested in it(2).
In accordance with that section 51(1), the Department of the Environment has received an application from Derry and Strabane City Council to change the name of the district of the council from Derry and Strabane to Derry City and Strabane.
1. This Order may be cited as the Change of District Name (Derry and Strabane) Order (Northern Ireland) 2016 and shall come into operation on 24th February 2016
2. The name of the district of Derry and Strabane shall be changed to Derry City and Strabane.

This Order changes the name of the local government district of Derry and Strabane identified in Article 2(1) of, and Schedule 1 to, the Local Government (Boundaries) Order (Northern Ireland) 2012 to Derry City and Strabane.
