The Department of Health(1), in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 64(2) of the Mental Health (Northern Ireland) Order 1986(2), makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement

1.  This Order may be cited as the Mental Health (1986 Order) (Amendment No. 2) Order 2020 and shall come into operation on 10th August 2020.

Amendment of Article 64(1)(b) of the Mental Health (Northern Ireland) Order 1986

2.  In Article 64(1)(b)(3), for “six months” substitute “three months”.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order varies the length of the period which must elapse for a second opinion to be required for the continued administration of medicine to detained patients from six months to three months.
