These Regulations prescribe the size, colour and type of the sign which, in accordance with section 28 of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, a school crossing patrol may exhibit so as to require traffic to stop when approaching a place where a person is crossing or seeking to cross a road. The sign was previously prescribed as diagram 605.2 in the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 1994 (S.I.1994/1519). These Regulations were notified in draft to the European Commission in accordance with Directive 98/34/EC (O.J. L 204, 21.7.98, p.37) as amended by Directive 98/48/EC (O.J. L 217, 5.8.98, p.18).
