EXPLANATORY NOTE
These Regulations apply permanent speed limits to the M74 motorway between Fullarton Road, Glasgow and its connection to the M8 motorway west of the Kingston Bridge. Speed limits are applied to the main carriageway and slip roads.
Regulation 3 and Part 1 of the Schedule set the maximum speed limit for the driving of motor vehicles at 60 miles per hour on certain lengths of road.
Regulation 3 and Part 2 of the Schedule set the maximum speed limit for the driving of motor vehicles at 50 miles per hour on certain lengths of road.
Regulation 3 and Part 3 of the Schedule set the maximum speed limit for the driving of motor vehicles at 30 miles per hour on certain lengths of road.
Regulation 4 provides that the speed limits do not apply to vehicles used for naval, military or air force purposes while being driven in response, or for practice in responding, to a national security emergency by a member of the special forces who has been trained in driving at high speeds or for the purpose of such training.
The Regulations come into force on 28th December 2012. Prior to that date, temporary speed limits applied to the roads covered by these Regulations, by virtue of the M74 Motorway (Fullarton Road to the M8 Motorway West of Kingston Bridge) (Temporary Speed Restriction) Order 2011 (S.S.I. 2011/275).
