The Academic Awards and Distinctions (UHI Millennium Institute) (Scotland) Order of Council 2008 (“the 2008 Order”) specified UHI Millennium Institute (which has since been renamed the University of the Highlands and Islands) as competent to grant degrees, diplomas, certificates and other academic awards or distinctions except where the award is granted in respect of the completion of a programme of supervised research.
This Order revokes and replaces the 2008 Order. Article 3(1) specifies the University of the Highlands and Islands (“the University”) as competent to grant all degrees, diplomas, certificates or other academic awards or distinctions as may be granted in pursuance of section 48(2) and (3) of the Further and Higher Education (Scotland) Act 1992. Article 3(2) provides that the University may grant such awards and distinctions in respect of courses and programmes of study completed on or after 8th June 2017.
Article 4 revokes the 2008 Order but, by virtue of article 5, the University remains specified as competent to grant academic awards and distinctions in respect of courses of study prior to 8th June 2017.
