Interpretation

This section has no associated Policy Notes

2.  In this Order—

“the Conference” means the conference convened by the COP comprising—

(a)

the 26th session of the COP,

(b)

the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol,

(c)

the third session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement, and

(d)

all related pre-sessional meetings, sessions of subsidiary bodies and additional meetings, convened in the United Kingdom,

“the 1961 Convention Articles” means the Articles (being certain of the Articles of the Vienna Convention of Diplomatic Relations signed in 1961) which are set out in schedule 1 of the Diplomatic Privileges Act 1964(1),

“the COP” means the organisation of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC being an organisation to which section 1 of the International Organisations Act 1968 applies(2),

“devolved and local taxes” means devolved taxes and local taxes to fund local authority expenditure (within the meaning of the exceptions to Section A1 (fiscal, economic and monetary policy) of Part 2 of schedule 5 of the Scotland Act 1998(3)),

“the Kyoto Protocol” means the protocol to the UNFCCC signed in Kyoto on 11 December 1997(4),

“the Paris Agreement” means the agreement adopted at the 21st Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC, signed in Paris on 12 December 2015(5),

“the UNFCCC” means the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, adopted in New York on 9 May 1992(6),

“the UNFCCC secretariat” means the secretariat of the UNFCCC, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement established under Article 8 of the UNFCCC.
