Dioceses, Pastoral and Mission Measure 2007 (Appointed Day Instrument 2008)

Whereas the Dioceses, Pastoral and Mission Measure received the Royal Assent on the thirtieth day of October 2007

And Whereas by section 66(2) of the said Measure it is provided that the said Measure shall come into force on such day as the Archbishops of Canterbury and York may jointly appoint and that different days may be appointed for different provisions

And Whereas an Instrument dated the twentieth day of December 2007 appointed that certain provisions of the said Measure should come into force on the dates set out in that Instrument

And Whereas the remaining provisions of the said Measure have not yet been brought into force

Now therefore WE ROWAN DOUGLAS by Divine Providence Archbishop of Canterbury and JOHN TUCKER MUGABI SENTAMU by Divine Providence Archbishop of York do hereby jointly appoint that the following provisions of the said Measure shall come into force on the following dates:

  • On the first day of May 2008:

    • Sections 13–16

    • Section 22

    • Subsection (7) of section 63

    • Section 65 so far as it relates to the provisions of Schedule 7 to come into force on the same date

    • Schedule 7 so far as it relates to the following provisions:

      • Sections 10–15 of the Dioceses Measure 1978

      • Sections 8 and 10 of the Church of England (Miscellaneous Provisions) Measure 1983

      • Subsection (2) of section II of the Bishops (Retirement) Measure 1986

      • Section 2 of the Clergy (Ordination) Measure 1990

      • Section 12 of the Church of England (Miscellaneous Provisions) Measure 1995

  • On the first day of September 2008

    • Section 2

    • Subsections (5) and (6) of section 3

    • Sections 4 and 5

    • Subsections (1)–(2) and (4)–(8) of section 6

    • Sections 7–11

    • Sections 18–21

    • Subsection (6) of section 63

    • Section 65 so far as it relates to the provisions of Schedule 7 to come into force on the same date

    • Schedule 7 so far as it relates to the following provisions:

      • The words after “being” to “any other diocese” in rule 34(1)(c) in Schedule 3 to the Synodical Government Measure 1969

      • In the Dioceses Measure 1978:

        • Sections 1–9 and 16–17

        • Subsection (1)(a) of section 18, subsections (2)–(4) of that section and the words “and the report of the Commission thereon” in subsections (5) and (7) of that section

        • Sections 19–25

        • the Schedule

      • Section 6 of the Church of England (Legal Aid and Miscellaneous Provisions) Measure 1988
