6Repeal and amendment of enactments relating to slaughterhouses in Scotland

(1)

For section 7 of the M1Slaughterhouses Act 1954 (duty of local authorities in Scotland in regard to slaughtering facilities) there shall be substituted the following section:—

“7Power of local authorities to provide slaughterhouses.

Subject to the following provisions of this Part of this Act, a local authority may provide and, if they think fit, operate a slaughterhouse, and may dispose of any slaughterhouse belonging to them by feu, sale, lease or excambion; and any slaughterhouse so disposed of shall be deemed to be disposed of under Part VIII of the M2Local Government (Scotland) Act 1947.”

In section 9 of the said Act of 1954 (registration in respect of private slaughterhouses in Scotland), in subsection (3) for the word " may " there shall be substituted the word " shall ".

Part II of the said Act of 1954 (provisions relating to Scotland) shall have effect subject to the amendments specified in Schedule 1 to this Act (being amendments consequential on the foregoing provisions of this section, or of a minor nature).
