An Act to restrict further the sale to young persons of explosive substances, including fireworks, and to increase the penalties provided by sections 31 and 80 of the Explosives Act 1875.

1 Increase of age for purchase of fireworks etc and of certain penalties relating to fireworks etc.E+W+S

[F1(1)In section 31 of the M1 Explosives Act 1875 (which, as extended by section 39 of that Act, prohibits the sale to children of explosives, including fireworks, and provides that a person who makes a sale in contravention of the said section 31 shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding £20) for the words “any child apparently under the age of thirteen” there shall be substituted the words “any person under the age of sixteen” and for the word “£20” there shall be substituted the word “£200”.]

2 Citation, extent and commencement.E+W+S

(1)This Act may be cited as the Explosives (Age of Purchase &c.) Act 1976, and this Act and the M2Explosives Acts 1875 and M31923 may be cited together as the Explosives Acts 1875 to 1976.

(2)This Act shall not extend to Northern Ireland.

(3)This Act shall come into force at the expiration of one month beginning with the date of its passing.
