7 Medical Practices Committee.

F1Subject to subsection (1A) below the Medical Practices Committee—

a

shall consist of a chairman and eight other members appointed by the Secretary of State after consultation with such organisations as he may recognise as representative of the medical profession; and

b

F2five of the members shall be medical practitioners, and F3four at least of those F3five shall be actively engaged in medical practice.

The Secretary of State may by order make such modifications as he considers appropriate of paragraphs (a) and (b) of subsection (1) above.

The Secretary of State may—

a

make regulations as to the appointment, tenure of office and vacation of office of the members of the Committee; and

b

provide the services of such officers as the Committee may require.

The Committee’s proceedings shall not be invalidated by any vacancy in its membership or by any defect in a member’s appointment or qualification.

After consulting the Medical Practices Committee, the Secretary of State may give the Committee directions with respect to the exercise of its functions; and it shall be the duty of the Committee to comply with any such directions.
