A local authority and in England the council of a county F1. . . may be authorised by the Secretary of State to acquire land compulsorily for any of the purposes of this Act, and the F2Acquisition of Land Act 1981, in Scotland, the M1Acquisition of Land (Authorisation Procedure) (Scotland) Act 1947 shall apply to the compulsory acquisition of land under this section F3as if this section had been in force immediately before the commencement of that Act.
