This Act may be cited as the Employment Protection (Consolidation) Act 1978.

This Act, except section 139(2) to (9) and the repeals in section 122 of the M1Employment Protection Act 1975 provided for in Schedule 17 to this Act, shall come into force on 1st November 1978, and section 139(2) to (9) and those repeals shall come into force on 1st January 1979.

This Act, except sections 137 and 157 and paragraphs 12 and 28 of Schedule 16, shall not extend to Northern Ireland.
