Social Security Act 1981

8 Short title etc.

(1) This Act may be cited as the Social Security Act 1981, and this Act and the Social Security Acts 1975 to 1980 may be cited together as the Social Security Acts 1975 to 1981.

(2) An Order in Council under paragraph 1(1)(b) of Schedule 1 to the [1974 c. 28.] Northern Ireland Act 1974 (1egislation for Northern Ireland in the interim period) which states that it is made only for purposes corresponding to those of this Act—

(a) shall not be subject to paragraph 1(4) and (5) of that Schedule (affirmative resolution of both Houses of Parliament); but

(b) shall be subject to annulment in pursuance of a resolution of either House.

(3) Section 1 of this Act and subsections (1) to (3) and (6) of this section come into force on the passing of this Act and the other provisions of this Act come into force on such day as the Secretary of State may appoint by order made by statutory instrument.

(4) The enactments mentioned in Schedule 2 to this Act shall have effect subject to the minor and consequential amendments specified in that Schedule.

(5) The following spent enactments, that is to say section 14(6) of the [1977 c. 5.] Social Security (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1977 and in section 22(16) of that Act the words from " and in section II. " to the end, are hereby repealed.

(6) This Act, except subsection (2) above and section 7 and paragraph 1 of Schedule 2, does not extend to Northern Ireland.
