(1)In this Act—
" the 1953 Act " means the [1953 c. 36.] Post Office Act 1953 ;
" the 1969 Act" means the [1969 c. 48.] Post Office Act 1969 ;
" the appointed day " has the meaning given by section 1(2);
" the Corporation " means British Telecommunications ;
" outside persons " means persons other than the Corporation, the Post Office and wholly owned subsidiaries of either of those bodies;
" pension " includes allowance and gratuity ;
" statutory maximum ", in relation to a fine on summary conviction, means—
in England and Wales, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man, the prescribed sum within the meaning of section 32 of the [1980 c. 43.] Magistrates' Courts Act 1980 (£1,000 at the passing of this Act);
in Scotland, the prescribed sum within the meaning of section 289B of the [1975 c. 21.] Criminal Procedure (Scotland) Act 1975 (£1,000 at the passing of this Act);
and for the purposes of the application of this definition in Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man the provisions of the said Act of 1980 which relate to the sum mentioned in paragraph (a) shall extend to Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man ;
" statutory provision", except in relation to Northern Ireland or the Isle of Man, has the same meaning as in section 57(1) of the [1964 c. 40.] Harbours Act 1964, in relation to Northern Ireland, has the same meaning as in section 1(f) of the [1954 c. 33 (N.I.).] Interpretation Act (Northern Ireland) 1954 and, in relation to the Isle of Man, means an Act of Tynwald.
(2)Any reference in this Act to a subsidiary shall be construed in accordance with section 154 of the [1948 c. 38.] Companies Act 1948 and any reference to a wholly owned subsidiary shall be construed in accordance with section 150(4) of that Act.
(3)This section shall extend to the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.
