[F121 Gaming machine licence duty.U.K.

(1)Except in the cases specified in Part I of Schedule 4 to this Act, no gaming machine (other than [F2an excepted machine]]) shall be provided for gaming on any premises situated in [F3the United Kingdom] unless there is for the time being in force—

(a)a licence granted under this Part of this Act with respect to the premises; or

(b)a licence so granted with respect to the machine.

(2)A licence of either kind granted under this Part of this Act shall be known as a gaming machine licence; and in this Part “ordinary licence” means a licence falling within subsection (1)(a) above and “special licence” means one falling within subsection (1)(b).

[F4(3)A gaming machine licence may be granted for a period of a month, or of any number of months not exceeding twelve, beginning on any day of any month]

[F5(3A)For the purposes of this section an excepted machine is—

(a)a two-penny machine, or

(b)a five-penny machine which is a small-prize machine.]
