This is the original version (as it was originally enacted).
In this Act—
" the 1949 Act" means the [1949 c. 97.] National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949 ;
" the 1968 Act " means the [1968 c. 41.] Countryside Act 1968 ;
" the commencement date ", in relation to any provision of this Act and any area, means the date of the coming into force of that provision in that area ;
" London borough council " includes the Common Council of the City of London ;
" modifications " includes additions, alterations and omissions, and cognate expressions shall be construed accordingly;
" statutory maximum ", in relation to a fine on summary conviction, means—
in England and Wales, the prescribed sum within the meaning of section 32 of the [1980 c. 43.] Magistrates' Courts Act 1980 (at the passing of this Act £1,000); and
in Scotland, the prescribed sum within the meaning of section 28 9B of the [1975 c. 21.] Criminal Procedure (Scotland) Act 1975 (at the passing of this Act £1,000).
