There shall be a chief officer of the Commission who shall be appointed by the Commission with the approval of the Secretary of State.

The number of the Commission’s employees, and the terms and conditions of their employment, shall be such as the Commission may, with the approval of the Secretary of State given with the consent of the Treasury, determine.

The Commission may in the case of such of its employees as it may, with the approval of the Secretary of State given with the consent of the Treasury, determine—

a

pay such pensions, allowances or gratuities to or in respect of them as may be so determined;

b

make such payments towards the provision of pensions, allowances or gratuities to or in respect of any of them as may be so determined; or

c

provide and maintain such schemes (whether contributory or not) for the payment of pensions, allowances or gratuities to or in respect of them as may be so determined;

and any scheme under this paragraph shall be so framed as to correspond, so far as is appropriate, with the principal civil service pension scheme within the meaning of section 2 of the M1Superannuation Act 1972 and for the time being in force.
