Tourism (Overseas Promotion) (Scotland) Act 1984

1Power of the Scottish Tourist Board to engage outside the UK in the promotion of tourism in Scotland.

(1)Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection (3) of section 2 of the [1969 c. 51.] Development of Tourism Act 1969, the powers of the Scottish Tourist Board under the other provisions of section 2 of that Act shall include the power to carry on any activities outside the United Kingdom for the purpose of encouraging people to visit Scotland.

(2)The Scottish Tourist Board shall exercise the power referred to in subsection (1) above to carry on activities outside the United Kingdom only with the consent (which may be given from time to time with or without conditions) of the Secretary of State who shall, before giving or withholding such consent, consult the British Tourist Authority.

(3)Nothing in this section shall—

(a)affect the power of the British Tourist Authority to carry on any activities outside the United Kingdom for the purpose of encouraging people to visit Scotland; or

(b)prevent the Scottish Tourist Board from acting on behalf of the Authority as mentioned in section 2(3) of the [1969 c. 51.] Development of Tourism Act 1969.
