35 Interpretation.

In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires—
“the 1953 Act” means the M1Births and Deaths Registration Act 1953;
“administrative area” means F1, subject to subsection (1B) below,F2Wales, a metropolitan or non-metropolitan county F2in England or Greater London;
“the Common Council” means the Common Council of the City of London and “common councillor” shall be construed accordingly;
“the City” means the City of London (including the Inner Temple and the Middle Temple);
“Greater London” does not include the City;
F3“person”, in relation to an offence of corporate manslaughter, includes organisation;
“relevant council” has the meaning given by F4section 1(1A) above.
F5“Welsh principal area” means Welsh county or county borough

In this Act any reference to a council of a non-metropolitan county includes in relation to an area for which there is a district council but no county council a reference to a district council, and any reference to a councillor of a non-metropolitan county shall be construed accordingly.

In the application of sections 4(5), 5(3) and 13(2) above to a non-metropolitan county part of which is included in such a coroner’s district as is mentioned in section 1(1)(b) above, any reference in those provisions to an administrative area shall be construed as a reference to so much of that county as is not so included.

In this Act references to an inquest held with a jury include, and references to an inquest held without a jury do not include, references to an inquest part of which is held with a jury.
