In this Part of this Act—

• F1 “ hospital ” means any institution which provides medical or surgical treatment for in-patients, other than—

  1. a

     a health service hospital within the meaning of F2the National Health Service Act 2006 or the National Health Service (Wales) Act 2006 or the M1National Health Service (Scotland) Act 1978,

  2. b

  3. c

     any institution carried on for profit,

• “policy of insurance” includes a covering note,

• “salvage” means the preservation of a vessel which is wrecked, stranded or in distress, or the lives of persons belonging to, or the cargo or apparel of, such a vessel, and

• “under the owner’s control” means, in relation to a vehicle, that it is being driven by the owner or by a servant of the owner in the course of his employment or is otherwise subject to the control of the owner.

In this Part of this Act, any reference to an accident includes a reference to two or more causally related accidents.
