50 Appointment of Commissioners.N.I.

(1)Her Majesty may from time to time appoint for Northern Ireland, from among persons who are barristers or solicitors of at least 10 years’ standing—

(a)a Chief Social Security Commissioner; and

(b)[F1other Social Security Commissioners].

(2)[F2In order to facilitate the disposal of the business of Social Security Commissioners, the Northern Ireland Judicial Appointments Commission may appoint]

(a)a member of the bar of Northern Ireland or [F3solicitor of the Court of Judicature of Northern Ireland] of at least 10 years’ standing;

(b)a person who has a 10 year general qualification within the meaning of section 71 of the M1Courts and Legal Services Act 1990; or

(c)an advocate or solicitor in Scotland of at least 10 years’ standing,

to be a Social Security Commissioner (but to be known as a deputy Commissioner) for such period or on such occasions as the [F4Commission determines with the agreement of the [F5Department of Justice]].

(3)Schedule 2 to this Act shall have effect for supplementing this section.
