15 Civilian employees.

A police authority established under section 3 may employ persons to assist the police force maintained by it or otherwise to enable the authority to discharge its functions.

A police authority shall exercise its powers under section 101 (and section 107) of the Local Government Act 1972 so as to secure that, subject to F5any provision included in a police force collaboration agreement by virtue of section 23(4) and to section 24(3A), any person employed by the authority under this section solely to assist the police force maintained by the authority is under the direction and control of the chief officer of police of that force.

The powers of direction and control referred to in subsection (2) include the powers of engagement and dismissal.

This section shall apply in relation to the Metropolitan Police Authority as it applies in relation to a police authority established under section 3.
