Functions of Secretary of State
37 Setting of objectives for police authorities.

The Secretary of State may by order determine objectives for the policing of the areas of all police authorities F1to which this section applies.

The police authorities to which this section applies are those established under section 3 and the Metropolitan Police Authority.

Before making an order under this section the Secretary of State shall consult—
a
persons whom he considers to represent the interests of police authorities F3to which this section applies, and
b
persons whom he considers to represent the interests of F4chief officers of policeof forces maintained by those authorities.

A statutory instrument containing an order under this section shall be laid before Parliament after being made.
