SCHEDULE 1 Consequential Amendments

The Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act 1989

1 In section 27(11) of the [1989 c. 4.] Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act 1989 (duration)—

(a) for “15th June 1997” substitute “15th June 1999”, and

(b) for “(repeal at end of two years)” substitute “(repeal at end of 24th August 2000”).

The Police and Criminal Evidence (Northern Ireland) Order 1989

2 (1) The [S.I. 1989/1341 (NI 12).] Police and Criminal Evidence (Northern Ireland) Order 1989 shall be amended as follows.

(2) At the end of Article 60 (tape-recording of interviews), which becomes paragraph (1), add—

“(2) A code of practice or order under this Article shall not apply in relation to interviews to which section 53 or 53A of the Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisions) Act 1996 applies (video recording and sound recording of police interviews).”.

The Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisions) Act 1996

3 (1) The [1996 c. 22.] Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisions) Act 1996 shall be amended as follows.

(2) In section 54(1) (codes of practice: supplementary), for “or 53” substitute “, 53 or 53A”.

(3) In section 60 (orders and regulations)—

(a) in subsection (4), omit “or Schedule 3”, and

(b) in subsection (5), after “53” insert “or 53A”.

(4) In section 62 (commencement, &c.), omit subsection (5).

(5) In Schedule 1 (scheduled offences)—

(a) in paragraph 16(g), for “subject to notes 1 and 4 below” substitute “subject to note 4 below”, and

(b) in paragraph 22, omit sub-paragraph (j).
