In this Act—
“the 1984 Act” means the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (c. 60);
“the 1996 Act” means the Police Act 1996 (c. 16);
“the 1997 Act” means the Police Act 1997 (c. 50);

[F2“the British Transport Police Force” means the force of constables appointed under section 53 of the British Transport Commission Act 1949 (c. xxix);]
“modifications” includes omissions, alterations and additions, and cognate expressions shall be construed accordingly.
