Section 54(1) (interpretation) is amended as follows.

In paragraph (c) of the definition of “financial year” for the words from “the Friendly” to the end substitute “the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014 (see sections 77 and 78 of that Act);”.

Omit the definition of “industrial and provident society”.

In the appropriate place insert—

  • “registered society” has the meaning given by section 1 of the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014;
