2015 CHAPTER 25

Commentary on Sections (and Schedules)

Section 24: Commencement

124.Subsection (1) provides that the following provisions come into force on the day that the Act receives Royal Assent:

(i)

The power to amend the wording of the petition-signing sheet by regulations (section 9(5)).

(ii)

The power to amend Schedules 4 and 5 by regulations (section 16(4)).

(iii)

The amendments to section 62 of the Electoral Administration Act 2006 which confer a power by order to make provision on loans (section 17).

(iv)

The power to make further provision about the conduct of a recall petition etc by regulations (section 18).

(v)

The general provision about regulation-making powers under the Act (section 21).

(vi)

The provisions relating to interpretation, extent, commencement and short title (sections 22 to 25).

125.Subsection (2) sets out the other regulation-making powers and related provisions that come into force on the day that the Act is passed.

126.The other sections of the Act are to be brought into force by the Minister by means of regulations made by statutory instrument (subsection (3)).
