79References to justices of the peace in relation to Northern Ireland
(1)
In section 33(1) of the Immigration Act 1971 (interpretation) at the appropriate place insert—
““justice of the peace”, in relation to Northern Ireland, means lay magistrate;”.
(2)
In section 167(1) of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 (interpretation) at the appropriate place insert—
““justice of the peace”, in relation to Northern Ireland, means lay magistrate;”.
(3)
In section 45 of the UK Borders Act 2007 (search for evidence of nationality: other premises), after subsection (5) insert—

In the application of this section to Northern Ireland a reference to a justice of the peace is to be treated as a reference to a lay magistrate.”
