F2 Act: the provisions of the 1955 Acts providing for findings of courts-martial to be subject to confirmation and to revision at the direction of the confirming officer cease to have effect (1.4.1997 subject to art. 3 of the commencing S.I.) by virtue of 1996 c. 46, s. 15; S.I. 1997/304, arts. 2, 3, Sch. 2

1 U.K. The recruiting officer shall warn the person to be enlisted that if he makes any false answer to thequestions to be read out to him he will be liable to be punished as provided by this Act.

2 U.K. He shall then read, or cause to be read, to that person the questions set out in the attestation paperand satisfy himself that he understands each of those questions and that his answers thereto have been dulyrecorded in the attestation paper.

3 U.K. He shall then ask that person to make and sign the declaration set out in the attestation paper as tothe truth of the answers and shall administer to him the oath of allegiance as set out in the attestationpaper.

4 U.K. Upon signing the declaration and taking the oath the said person shall become a soldier of the regularforces.

5 U.K. The recruiting officer shall by signature attest, in the manner required by the attestation paper, thatthe requirements of this Act as to the attestation of the recruit have been carried out and shall deliverthe attestation paper duly dated to such person as may be prescribed by regulations of [F1 the Defence Council].

6 U.K. When in accordance with such regulations the recruit is finally approved for service, the officer bywhom he is approved shall at his request furnish him with a certified copy of the attestation paper.
