The [F1Secretary of State for Education and Science] may cause a local inquiry to be held for the purpose of the exercise of any of his functions under this Act; and the provisions of subsections (2) (3) (4) and (5) of section [F2two hundred and fifty of the M1Local Government Act 1972] shall have effect with respect to any such inquiry . . .
