Suffragans Nomination Act 1888

An Act to make further provision for the Nomination of Bishops Suffragans.

Whereas by the Act of the twenty-sixth year of the reign of !! King Henry the Eighth, chapter fourteen, intituled 11 An Act for nomination and consecration of suffragans within this realm," it was enacted that the towns therein named should be taken and accepted for sees of bishops suffragans :

And whereas it is desirable to add to the number of towns for the purposes of that Act :

Be it therefore enacted by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows :

1Short title.

This Act may be cited as the Suffragans Nomination Act 1888.

2Other towns to be sees for suffragans besides those named in 26 Hen. 8 c.14.

From and after the passing of this Act, for the purposes of the herein-before recited Act, such other towns as Her Majesty the Queen may from time to time by Order in Council direct shall be taken and accepted for sees of bishops suffragans as if they had been included in that Act, and that Act shall be construed and have effect accordingly.

3Power to change see of present suffragans.

It shall be lawful for Her Majesty by writing under Her Royal Sign Manual from time to time to substitute for the see of any bishop suffragan nominated before the passing of this Act any town included in any such Order in Council as in the last preceding-section mentioned, and that town shall thenceforth be taken and accepted for the see of that bishop suffragan as if he had been originally nominated thereto.
