Interpretation

2.—(1) In this Order, unless the context otherwise requires:—

Local Authority” means a Local Authority for the purposes of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1950;

Poultry” means any live bird or birds of any of the following descriptions, that is to say:—

(a)

domestic fowls, turkeys, geese, ducks, guinea-fowls, pigeons, pheasants and partridges;

(b)

birds of the species Psittaciformes, including any of the birds commonly called parrots, parrakeets, budgerigars, lovebirds, macaws, cockatoos, cockatiels, conures, caiques, lories and lorikeets;

(c)

doves, peafowl and swans.

The Minister” and “The Ministrymean respectively the Minister and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries;

Veterinary Inspector” means a Veterinary Inspector of the Ministry.

(2) In the Animals (Miscellaneous Provisions) Order of 1927(1) as amended by the Animals (Miscellaneous Provisions) Order of 1938(2) the expression “animalshall include poultry as defined in this Order and the expressiondiseaseshall include the disease known as psittacosis or ornithosis and that Order shall be read and have effect accordingly.

(3) The Interpretation Act, 1889, shall apply to the interpretation of this Order as it applies to the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.
