MERCHANT SHIPPING;SAFETY
These Rules amend the Merchant Shipping (Life-Saving Appliances) Rules 1965 in two respects:—They require that ships of Class VI of less than 70 ft. in length and plying not more than 3 nautical miles from their starting point in any direction shall carry liferafts, buoyant apparatus or lifebuoys sufficient for the total number of persons the ship is certified to carry, instead of, as previously, sufficient for only 70% of that total.The thread for the sewing of kapok lifejackets must now comply with a British Standards Specification.
