The Minister for the Civil Service, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 13(2) and (5) of the Pensions (Increase) Act 1971 and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:—

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Pensions Increase (Federated Superannuation System for Universities) (Amendment No. 2) Regulations 1977, and shall come into operation on 16th June 1977.

2.  The Interpretation Act 1889 shall apply for the interpretation of these Regulations as it applies for the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.

3.  The Pensions Increase (Federated Superannuation System for Universities) Regulations 1972(1), as amended(2), shall be further amended, in Regulation 2(1) in the definition of “relevant employment”:—

(a)in paragraph (c) thereof, by inserting after the words “Great Britain” the words “or Northern Ireland”;

(b)in paragraph (e) thereof, by deleting the date “1st July” and substituting “1st October”.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

These Regulations amend the Pensions Increase (Federated Superannuation System for Universities) Regulations 1972, which provide for the payment of allowances corresponding to pension increases under the Pensions (Increase) Act 1971 to persons who have been subject to the Superannuation System for Universities (F.S.S.U.) while in relevant employment and who have retired from the civil service. The amendment adds to the definition of “relevant employment” for the purposes of the regulations employment with a university or university college in Northern Ireland, and also employment in the Norfolk Agricultural Station between the 1st July and 1st October 1950 if such employment commenced before 1st January 1948.
