Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:—

Citation and commencement1

This Order may be cited as the European Communities (Designation) Order 1980 and shall come into operation, as to articles 1 and 2(a), on 26th June 1980 and, as to article 2(b), on 18th July 1980.

Designation2

For the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972 the Commissioners of Customs and Excise are hereby designated in relation to the following matters:—

a

the payment by the Commissioners of Customs and Excise to the Intervention Board for Agricultural Produce of sums equivalent to amounts paid to them as monetary compensatory amounts charged on imports into the United Kingdom from other Member States of the European Economic Community;

b

excise matters of the European Communities;

and in relation to anything supplemental or incidental to these matters.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order designates the Commissioners of Customs and Excise to exercise powers conferred by section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972, to make regulations in relation to the payment by the Commissioners of Customs and Excise to the Intervention Board for Agricultural Produce of sums equivalent to amounts paid to them as the monetary compensatory amounts charged on imports into the United Kingdom from other Member States of the European Economic Community and to excise matters of the European Communities.
