In exercise of the power conferred upon me by section 24(2) of the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Act 1979, I hereby make the following order:—

Citation and interpretation1

This order may be cited as the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Act 1979 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1980.

In this Order “the Act” means the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Act 1979.

Appointed days2

The day appointed for the coming into operation of any provision of the Act specified in the first column of Part I of the Schedule to this order shall be 15th September 1980.

The day appointed for the coming into operation of any provision of the Act specified in the first column of Part II of the Schedule to this order shall be 1st November 1980.

Nothing contained in this order shall constitute the appointed day within the meaning of section 5(10) of the Act or of paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 thereto.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order brings into operation on 15th September 1980, provisions of the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Act 1979 for constituting, together with their Finance Committees, four National Boards, one each for England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. It also brings into operation on 1st November 1980 the provisions of the Act for constituting the United Kingdom Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting, together with its Finance Committee. Other provisions of the Act dealing with general and financial matters come into operation as indicated in the Schedule to the Order.
