The National Health Service (Standing Advisory Committees) Order 1981

The Secretary of State for Social Services, in exercise of powers conferred by section 6(3) of the National Health Service Act 1977(1)and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:—

Citation and commencement

1.  This Order may be cited as the National Health Service (Standing Advisory Committees) Order 1981 and shall come into operation on 13th May 1981.

Constitution of Standing Advisory Committees

2.—(1) The Standing Advisory Committees specified in column (1) of Part I of the Schedule to this Order shall continue to be constituted for the purpose of advising the Secretary of State on the services mentioned in column (2) of the Schedule opposite the names of the respective Committees.

(2) The Standing Advisory Committee specified in column (1) of Part II of the Schedule to this Order is hereby constituted for the purpose of advising the Secretary of State on the services mentioned in column (2) of the Schedule opposite the name of that Committee.

(3) The said services are services under the National Health Service Act 1977.

(4) Each of the said Committees shall consist of such number of members as the Secretary of State may from time to time determine.

Revocation of regulations

3.  The National Health Service (Standing Advisory Committees) Order 1949, the National Health Service (Standing Advisory Committees) (Amendment) Order 1962, the National Health Service (Standing Advisory Committees) (Amendment) Order 1966(2) and the National Health Service (Standing Advisory Committees) (Amendment) Order 1974 are hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order revokes and replaces with amendments earlier Orders and provides for the constitution of Standing Advisory Committees to advise the Secretary of State for Social Services and the Secretary of State for Wales on certain services provided under the National Health Service Act 1977. The changes made by the Order are that the Standing Advisory Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation is constituted as an additional Standing Advisory Committee and the Standing Ophthalmic Advisory Committee ceases to exist.
