Citation, commencement and interpretation1

These regulations may be cited as the Statutory Sick Pay (General) Regulations 1982, and shall come into operation on 6th April 1983.

In these regulations—

  • the Act” means the Social Security and Housing Benefits Act 1982;

  • F1“the Contributions and Benefits Act” means the Social Security Contributions and Benefits Act 1992;

  • F2“income tax month” means the period beginning on the 6th day of any calendar month and ending on the 5th day of the following calendar month;

  • Part I” means Part I of the Act;

and other expressions, unless the context otherwise requires, have the same meanings as in Part I.

Unless the context otherwise requires, any reference—

a

in these regulations to a numbered section or Schedule is a reference to the section or Schedule, as the case may be, of or to the Act bearing that number;

b

in these regulations to a numbered regulation is a reference to the regulation bearing that number in these regulations; and

c

in any of these regulations to a numbered paragraph is a reference to the paragraph bearing that number in that regulation.
