In exercise of the powers conferred upon me by section 35 of the Police Act 1964, and after furnishing the Police Negotiating Board for the United Kingdom with a draft of the Regulations in accordance with section 2(1) of the Police Negotiating Board Act 1980, I hereby made the following Regulations:—
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Police Cadets (Amendment) Regulations 1983.
2. These Regulations shall come into operation on 1st April 1983 and shall have effect for the purposes of Regulation 4 as from 6th April 1983, for the purposes of Regulation 5 as from 1st September 1982 and for all other purposes as from 1st April 1983.
3. In these Regulations any reference to the principal Regulations is a reference to the Police Cadets Regulations 1979(1).
4. For paragraph (2) of Regulation 13 of the principal regulations there shall be substituted the following paragraph:—
“(2) Except where his pay falls to be reduced in accordance with paragraph (3), there shall be deducted from the pay of a police cadet—
(a)the amount of any sickness benefit to which he is entitled under the Social Security Acts 1975–1982, and
(b)any statutory sick pay to which he is entitled under the Social Security and Housing Benefits Act 1982,(2)
and for the purposes of sub-paragraph (a) above any increase for adult and child dependants shall be treated as forming part of the benefit to which it relates.”.
5. In Schedule 2 to the principal Regulations for the Table substituted by Regulation 3(b) of the Police Cadets (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 1982 there shall be substituted the following Table:—

and the said Regulation 3(b) is hereby revoked.

These Regulations amend the Police Cadets Regulations 1979 with effect, as provided by Regulation 2, from the dates mentioned below.
Regulation 4 amends Regulation 42 of the 1979 Regulations, with effect from 6th April 1983, in respect of the benefits which are deductible from pay as a consequence of the coming into operation of the Social Security and Housing Benefits Act 1982. References to injury benefit and earnings related supplement are omitted and a reference to statutory sick pay under the 1982 Act is added.
Regulation 5 increases the pay of cadets in London with effect from 1st September 1982. Retrospection is authorised by section 33(4) of the Police Act 1964.
