The Lord Chancellor and the Lord Advocate, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 29(2) of the Child Abduction and Custody Act 1985, hereby make the following Order:—
1. This Order may be cited as the Child Abduction and Custody Act 1985 (Commencement) Order 1986.
2. The Child Abduction and Custody Act 1985 shall come into force on 1st August 1986.

This Order brings into force on 1st August 1986 the Child Abduction and Custody Act 1985. This Act has enabled the United Kingdom to ratify the Hague Convention of 1980 on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction (Cmnd. 8281) and the European Convention of 1980 on Recognition and Enforcement of Decisions concerning Custody of Children and on the Restoration of Custody of Children (Cmnd. 8155).
