The Pensioners' Lump Sum Payments Order 1987

Coming into force

7th December 1987

Whereas a draft of the Order was laid before Parliament in accordance with the provisions of section 4(1)(a) of the Pensioners' Payments and Social Security Act 1979(1) and approved by resolution of each House of Parliament;

Now, therefore, the Secretary of State for Social Services, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 4(1) and (2) of the Pensioners' Payments and Social Security Act 1979 and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation, commencement and interpretation

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Pensioners' Lump Sum Payments Order 1987 and shall come into force on 7th December 1987.

(2) In this Order “the Act” means the Pensioners' Payments and Social Security Act 1979.

Substitution in the Act for references to the relevant week and to the passing of the Act

2.  Sections 1 to 3 of the Act shall have effect as if—

(a)for references to the relevant week there were substituted references to the week beginning 7th December 1987, and

(b)for references to the passing of the Act there were substituted references to the making of this Order.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order provides for a lump sum payment (Christmas bonus of £10) to be made in respect of any person to whom sections 1 to 3 of the Pensioners' Payments and Social Security Act 1979 applies in the week beginning Monday, 7th December 1987.
