Coming into force

The Secretary of State, after consulting with the persons referred to in section 22 (2) of the Merchant Shipping Act 1979 (1), in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 21 (1) (c) and (3) and 22 (1) of that Act and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations, a draft of which has been laid before and approved by resolutions of each House of Parliament:—

These Regulations may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Passenger Ship Construction) (Amendment No. 2) Regulations 1987 and shall come into force on1st March 1988.

Regulation 1 (3) (b) of the Merchant Shipping (Passenger Ship Construction and Survey) Regulations 1984 (2) shall be replaced by the following:—

Part VIA shall only apply to non-United Kingdom ro/ro passenger ships while they are within a port in the United Kingdom.

Regulation 1 (3) (b) of the Merchant Shipping (Passenger Ship Construction) Regulations 1980 (3) shall be replaced by the following:—

Part VIIB shall only apply to non-United Kingdom ro/ro passenger ships while they are within a port in the United Kingdom.

These Regulations further amend the Merchant Shipping (Passenger Ship Construction and Survey) Regulations 1984 and the Merchant Shipping (Passenger Ship Construction) Regulations 1980 so that the requirements for access door indicating systems, supplementary emergency lighting and television systems on United Kingdom ro/ro passenger ships are extended to other ro/ro passenger ships while they are within a port in the United Kingdom.
