The Scottish Solicitors' Discipline Tribunal (Increase of Maximum Fine) Order 1987

Whereas it appears to the Secretary of State that there has been a change in the value of money since 1980;

And whereas the sum substituted by this Order for the sum specified in section 53(2)(c) of the Solicitors (Scotland) Act 1980(1) appears to him to be justified by that change:

Now therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 53(8) of that Act, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, the Secretary of State hereby makes the following Order:

1.  This Order may be cited as the Scottish Solicitors' Discipline Tribunal (Increase of Maximum Fine) Order 1987 and shall come into force on 1st April 1987.

2.  In section 53(2)(c) of the Solicitors (Scotland) Act 1980, for the reference to“£2,500” there shall be substituted a reference to“£4,000”.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order increases from £2,500 to £4,000 the maximum fine which may be imposed by the Scottish Solicitors' Discipline Tribunal.
