Whereas British Gas public limited company, being the successor company1 to the British Gas Corporation, ceased to be wholly owned by the Crown on 8th December 1986, and whereas the Government shareholding carries 2.680 per cent of the voting rights exercisable in all circumstances at general meetings of the company:

Now, therefore, the Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 54(1) of the Gas Act 19862 and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:—
