The Health and Medicines Act 1988 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1988

In exercise of powers conferred by section 26(1) of the Health and Medicines Act 1988(1) and of all other powers enabling me in that behalf, I hereby make the following Order:

Citation

1.  This Order may be cited as the Health and Medicines Act 1988 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1988.

Appointed day

2.  1st January 1989 is the day appointed for the coming into force of section 11(7) of the Health and Medicines Act 1988 and of section 25(2) of that Act so far as it relates to the following enactments:—

(a)in section 79(1) of the National Health Service Act 1977(2), paragraph (d) and the word“or” immediately preceding it;

(b)in section 71(1) of the National Health Service (Scotland) Act 1978(3), paragraph (d) and the word“or” immediately preceding it.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into force on 1st January 1989 those provisions of the Health and Medicines Act 1988 which remove the prohibition on charges for clinical examinations as part of general dental services in the National Health Service in Great Britain and reports on those examinations.
